Why the factory you choose decides your margin
Cat trees are bulky, freight-heavy and easy to get wrong: a 0.5 kg difference in board thickness or a cheaper sisal wrap directly hits your landed cost and your return rate. Choosing the right cat tree manufacturer in China is therefore a sourcing decision, not a purchasing one.
7 steps to vet a cat tree manufacturer
- Confirm they actually manufacture. Ask for the factory address, a live video walkthrough and the SGS/audit report — not just a showroom tour.
- Check the material spec. Particleboard vs MDF, board density, sisal vs carpet wrap, and whether the fabric is REACH/CA-117 compliant.
- Review certifications. CE, REACH, FDA (where applicable), CARB/TSCA Phase 2 and FSC for wood.
- Test the MOQ and tooling. Low MOQ with your own design usually means ODM/Xinjiang-tooled production; confirm tooling cost and ownership.
- Ask for a real lead time. Includes material prep, production and QC — not just assembly. 25–35 days after deposit is typical.
- Request a production sample, not a studio sample. Order a sample from the same line you will buy from.
- Check export paperwork. Commercial invoice, packing list, FSC/CARB certificates and a fumigation certificate where needed.
Red flags
- No verifiable factory address, or “our factory is a partner”.
- Price 30%+ below market with no explanation on material.
- Refuses a video call from the production floor.
- Quotes MOQ “one container” only, with no sampling path.

Is it cheaper to buy cat trees directly from a Chinese factory?
Yes — buying factory-direct removes one to two trading layers, typically saving 10–25% versus a trading company, provided you verify the factory and material spec yourself.
How do I verify a cat tree factory before ordering?
Ask for the factory address, an SGS or third-party audit report, a live production-floor video call and a sample produced on the same line you will buy from.
What is a normal MOQ for cat trees?
MOQ is flexible and depends on the model; many cat trees start from a few hundred units. Combined orders across models are usually accepted.
Can I put my own brand on the product?
Yes — OEM/ODM includes custom packaging, branding, manuals and labels based on your artwork.
